Because, if you’ve read us for more than about 45 seconds total in your life, you understand we’re complete homers who think UMass is going undefeated every season. I mean, we don’t come out and say that, that would be ridiculous. But pretty much every week we tend to pick Mass against the spread. And this season we’ve been right more often than not – UMass has straight out beat the spread three times, lost twice, and had one game (BGSU) that was right around a push depending on your bookie.
A confluence of things has brought us today to the point where we don’t have our typical preview for this weekend’s game. Mainly I am trying to defeat a cold that seems to want to leak all of my brain matter through my nostrils. So there’s that, and I hope you carry that visual around with you today, especially when eating not-quite-done eggs for breakfast.
Instead, we’re going to send you around to our favorite folks on the web so you can get an idea what impartial (or, at least, professional) sportswriting looks like. Pay no mind to the fact that they write for newspapers! Because the newspaper is DEAD, I TELL YOU! DEE-EE-DEE DEAD!
MEANWHILE IN HAMPSHIRE COUNTRY
I’D LINK TO THE GLOBE, BUT THEIR ONE ARTICLE TODAY IS ABOUT LAST WEEK’S GAME AND FUCK THAT NOISE. ALSO THE HERALD SEEMS QUIET WHAT’S UP WITH THAT, BOB?
I’D ALSO LINK TO BOSTON.COM, WHERE BUZZFEED WRITERS GO TO DIE, BUT I COULDN’T FIND ANYTHING UMASS RELATED BECAUSE THEY’RE TOO BUSY TELLING YOU HOW WHAT THIS CELEBRITY SAID WILL SHOCK YOU!
HOW ABOUT THE FAN PERSPECTIVE
INFO FOR DAYS
Here are the official UMass Game Notes for tomorrow’s action. Look to your normal outlets for the game, meaning it’s on ESPN3/WatchESPN and the radio.
Somehow, UMass is favored in this game by 1.5. The line has moved from opening at Kent -1, so there seems to be some action, though most books have closed the line since Kent State is dealing with an uncertain quarterback situation. The moneyline is sitting at MASS -125, so if you’re going to be silly and put money on this game, bet the spread and get the -110 payout rather than the -125. It’s only a point and a half handicap, and we know Whip isn’t going to be kicking any field goals to win by a point.
I’ll leave you with perhaps the worst use of a Tenacious D track in history:
